The Long War to Reaffirm Western and Israeli Primacy Undergoes a Shape-Shift

The Long War to Reaffirm Western and Israeli Primacy Undergoes a Shape-Shift Alastair Crooke The Middle East is ‘conservative’ no more. Rather, a very different ‘Awakening’ is gestating. The long war to reaffirm western and Israeli primacy is undergoing a shape-shift. On one front, the calculus in respect to Russia and the Ukraine war has shifted. And in the Middle East, the locus and shape of the war is shifting in a distinct way. Georges Kennan’s famed Soviet doctrine has long formed the baseline to U.S. policy, firstly directed toward the Soviet Union, and latterly, towards Russia. Kennan’s thesis from 1946 was that the United States needed to work patiently and resolutely to thwart the Soviet threat, and to enhance and aggravate the internal fissures in the Soviet system, until its contradictions triggered the collapse from within. More recently, the  Atlantic Council  has drawn on the Kennan doctrine to  suggest  that his broad outline should serve as the...

Patrick Lawrence: The ICC Warrants and the World They Announce

The ICC Warrants and the World They Announce Patrick Lawrence LONDON—There is an old, often-told story about a front-page article one of the big dailies here once ran as severe weather hit in these parts. “Storm in Channel, Continent Cut Off,” the headline read. Nobody is certain any newspaper ever published any such story with any such headline. The majority view is that it is an apocryphal tale meant to suggest the Anglocentric sensibility you sometimes find among the English. People cite some specifics from time to time: It appeared in The Times in the 1930s. With the reporting coming out since the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israel’s prime...

Trump's Second Term: Foreign Policy Eric Striker Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign revived his 2016 outsider crusade against the Washington’s military adventures. In his latest run, the president-elect struck a remarkably sober tone on the many conflicts that have erupted in the last few years — which Jewish think-tanks  calmly dismiss  as baseless vote-getting — though he provided scant details on how he would approach Ukraine and the Middle East. The realities of America’s current geopolitical predicament were muffled under his questionable mantra that “no new wars” were prosecuted when he was in office. Buffing Trump’s everything-to-everyone shtick were a series of former left-wing anti-war influencers, such as Jimmy Dore, Dave Smith, and Tulsi Gabbard, who have in recent years hitched themselves to the MAGA wagon, citing the movements supposed non-interventionism as their reason. Perhaps Trump’s most audacious deception was his campaign’s outreach to the Arab community, ...
