The Preposterous Nature of “Reality”

The Preposterous Nature of “Reality” Edward J. Curtin, Jr.     It is not uncommon to be doing something seemingly innocuous when one is flooded with wild thoughts, musings that seem randomly meaningless, leading nowhere.  Thoughts that think us.  To dismiss them, however, is a mistake.  For me, these unbidden guests usually visit me when I am out walking or lying in bed right before sleep. Recently, as I was again walking across the meandering Housatonic River through the covered wooden bridge in Sheffield, Massachusetts, I found myself waylaid by the thought of the word “preposterous,” which is usually understood to mean absurd, very silly, or foolish.  Being happily eccentric and language obsessed, I thought of its etymology, which from the Latin means before-behind or before-after, which makes preposterous an absurd, nonsense word itself, which seemed appropriate to thoughts that were approaching me from the other side as I walked ass-backwards (m...

Searching for Monsters

Image
Searching for Monsters Public acceptance of U.S. foreign excess — searching for monsters to destroy — leads to acceptance of war, and to acceptance of war by other means,   writes  Andrew P. Napolitano. President George H.W. Bush displaying what he said was a bag of crack cocaine during a 1989 speech promoting his “war on drugs.”  (C-span still) Andrew P. Napolitano “ America goes not abroad in search of monsters to destroy … She might become the dictatress of the world, But she would no longer be the ruler of her own spirit.” — John Quincy Adams (1767-1848) I n the middle of his term as secretary of state, the future president John Quincy Adams addressed a joint session of Congress. What prompted this unusual event? The United States had just fought Britain to a draw in the War of 1812. It was fought almost entirely in Canada. Some historians believe the British began this war to win back their former colonies. Some believe the U.S. began it to seize Canada from B...

There Is Something Rotten in Washington

Image
There Is Something Rotten in Washington Scott Ritter is harassed by FBI for calling for peace while Israel’s Lobby overthrows elections Philip Giraldi One thing you can say about the Administration of President Joe Biden is that nearly every week there is something new and exciting to discuss. Galloping dementia recently gifted us with Joe’s 11 minute abdication speech in which he announced that he would not be running for another term as president. He babbled about how he was taking the step in spite of his desire to continue. The president, who is 81 and recently best noted for his failing mental state causing him to fall down stairs, felt  compelled to say that  he believes that his record as president “merited a second term” but that “nothing can come in the way of saving our democracy.” He  also claimed that  “I’m the first president in this century to report to the American people that the United States is not at war anywhere in the world,” even though i...

The Israeli Angle, As War Talk Heats Up

The Israeli Angle, As War Talk Heats Up MARK WAUCK There’s no doubt about it that war talk is heating up, and events on the ground and in the air in the Levant are also heating up. Israel is once again claiming that if they don’t attack Lebanon today it will be tomorrow—or maybe next week, or … You get the picture. My guess is that this is one more rhetorical attempt to pressure the US into committing to a major Middle East war—something the US isn’t prepared for and doesn’t want. Israel isn’t prepared for a real war, either—who thinks the military that can’t take Gaza is ready for Hezbollah? Just a bombing campaign, but that’s exactly what could lead to Hezbollah unleashing its missiles. At which point everything becomes less predictable. The GOP’s utterly reckless and irresponsible quest for Jewish money has led to the invite to Netanyahu to gaslight Congress and the public. My guess there is that, with regard to the public, that’ll be like pushing on a string. The public knows...

Secret Service Foreknowledge or Criminal Negligence? Damning New Evidence Surfaces In FBI’s January 6 “Pipe Bomb” Story

Secret Service Foreknowledge or Criminal Negligence? Damning New Evidence Surfaces In FBI’s January 6 “Pipe Bomb” Story Over three years have passed since January 6, 2021, and the truth of what really happened that day has never been more relevant. For the regime, the stakes involved in selling the official narrative of January 6 as a uniquely horrific domestic terror event are higher than ever. Such are the stakes that Biden’s crypt-keepers presumably injected him with the strongest stuff they had to keep the President conscious and standing upright for the duration of his  hour and a half-long speech  marking the anniversary of the day “we almost lost America.” And it makes sense. The ludicrous notion of January 6 as an “insurrection” has long served as the key pretext for the accelerated political weaponization of the national security state against Trump and his supporters. More recently, the still more ludicrous theory of Trump’s culpability for this “insurrection”...
