More commonly known by his noble title, the Marquis de Sade scribbled The 120 Days of Sodom on a makeshift scroll for several weeks before being transferred to a mental asylum. The text was eventually published in 1904, almost a century after Sadeās death. His manuscript still provokes debate regarding its literary merit (or lack thereof). Its first sentence above is ...
