Mass Death Ahead

Mass Death Ahead LINH DINH  •  Universal suffrage finally came to South Africa in 1994. Not everyone cheered. Many whites hoarded beans, rice, rusks, canned protein, candles and gasoline, etc. They expected societal breakdown, if not mass violence committed by blacks in retribution. Thousands of whites emigrated, but, this is often overlooked, thousands also returned from overseas, so the “chicken run” was balanced out by repatriation. Foreigners also arrived to join the Rainbow Nation. Here in Cape Town, I’ve met two Americans who are still here, though their children have left. Chicken Licken is a South African fast-food chain. Founded in 1981 by the son of a Greek immigrant, it has 259 branches in two countries. In 2010, it aired a  classic ad  that begins with a snapshot of suburban tranquility. We see a pleasant house in Krugersdorp boasting a landscaped front yard, date palm, arbored entrance, stone chimney and handsome muntined windows. Its fence is low, with no razor or electri

Lockdowns, Muzzles and Vaccine Mandates Are a Pagan Ritual

Lockdowns, Muzzles and Vaccine Mandates Are a Pagan Ritual Unless everyone participates they won't work. As before recalcitrants will be thrown to the lions Marko Marjanovic You may have been taught in elementary school that Rome persecuted Early Christians because they refused to acknowledge the divinity of Roman emperors. That isn’t quite true. The official Roman religion did not hold up Emperors as gods but merely as beings who had  the potential  to ascend among them and who had already made a very small part of that journey. The Christian rejection of the divine spirit of the Emperors was an irritant, but it wasn’t the most important cause of their persecution. Their more important transgression —— one that saw them run afoul not just of the state apparatus but of the wider society —— is that they refused to participate in the offerings to the traditional gods. According to the religious feeling of the day, to please the gods everyone had to participate.  If just a small par

COVID Insanity: A Further Surge

Image
COVID Insanity: A Further Surge Omar Khan An Opening Salvo A viral strain cannot be a peg by which we assess what we can and cannot achieve, who we can or cannot be, or the contours of social, economic and national destiny. Moreover, all the largely evidence free, almost madcap nostrums rolled out, have failed. Sweden, where they were ignored (no lockdowns, no mask mandates, no school closures) and where sanity prevailed, boasts a lower all-cause mortality in 2021 than in 1991 (and many intervening years since). In the East Coast of the US, both infections and deaths are higher this “vaxxed” autumn than the preceding autumn. The same is true in the UK. Baffled we may be, but data is data. Lockdowns, school closures, mask mandates have all flopped and backfired. Governments devastated their own societies with illogical, unsound, unscientific policies that we will be decades recovering from, and whose precedent will cast a shadow over civil liberties for quite some time to come.
