This didn’t mean staying in resort hotels, it meant going off the beaten track and living in places for periods of time, from a few months in Sucre, Bolivia, Costa Rica and the Sahara Desert, to almost three years in Luxor, Egypt, and many places in-between. Laura Leebrick, a manager at Rogue Disposal & Recycling in southern Oregon, is standing on the end of its landfill watching an avalanche of plastic trash pour out of a semitrailer: containers, bags, packaging, strawberry containers, yogurt cups.
