I am extremely saddened by the destruction of Lahaina on Maui. Ed Dowd noted that the official death toll is 80 but rumors that it could be as high as 500-1000 people. I have gone through several years of severe “wildfires” in CA/NV which affected the neighborhoods I care about, destroyed several houses of my neighbors, resulted in severe damage to the water company where I volunteer as a treasurer (it took a while but we have restored it), displaced many people, and destroyed acreage of forest.
