All Cause Mortality in the United States During 2021

All Cause Mortality in the United States During 2021 Gilbert G. Berdine, M.D   The CEO of the OneAmerica insurance company recently  disclosed  that mortality in the 18-64 age group was 40 percent higher during the 3 rd  and 4 th  quarters of 2021 than during pre-pandemic levels. For reference, the CEO indicated that a 10 percent increase would have been a 1-in-200-year event. Furthermore, most of the deaths were not attributed to Covid. Figure 1: US weekly deaths by age group.  Data  is from the CDC. The gold curve is data for 2021. The red curve is data for 2020. The gray curves are data for 2015-2019. The OneAmerica insurance company serves a subset of the US population. The CDC collects  mortality data  for the entire US population. Figure 1 illustrates the weekly US mortality from 2015-2021 by age group. Several generalizations are readily apparent. The years 2015-2019 were very similar for all age groups forming a tight band of usual expectation. The tightness of the band for 201

The Cavalry Rolled In

The Cavalry Rolled In On Aligning for a Common Purpose Heather Heying The big thing that has become crystal clear these last two years is that our prison here in Canada is in many ways self inflicted. We are the wardens of our own speech. And when we share our fears and our joy and especially our hope, we are giving others permission to speak and to be free. These are the words of Dan, whose full name is proudly included at the bottom of the letter you are about to read. I received his letter midday on January 29, 2022, after discussing the Canadian Truckers Convoy on  DarkHorse , and posting about it  here , both on January 28. I thank Dan for his words, his honesty, and his courage. The letter speaks for itself. Share Heather, First, thank you for covering the convoy. In my rural northern Ontario city of barely over 50,000, 7,000 people spontaneously showed up on the side of the road yesterday. It was a blistering -38°C (with windchill). This happened simultaneously and without any c

Bougiecrats are headed for a fall-of-communism-style collapse

Bougiecrats are headed for a fall-of-communism-style collapse Sensing defeat they are lashing out in all sorts of weird ways Toby Rogers Background and context As far back as 2001, Democratic stalwarts John Judis and Ruy Teixeira began making the case, to anyone who would listen, that demographic trends in the U.S. (e.g. immigration and higher birthrates in the Latino population) would lead to a semi-permanent Democratic majority in government. Their book,  The Emerging Democratic Majority  created a  cottage industry  of pollsters and political scientists who showed, with fancy charts and graphs, how Democrats, particularly Progressive Democrats, were about to be in the catbird seat of American politics. Democrats came to see this as their due — they had higher levels of educational attainment and they had been at the forefront of the movements for racial equality, women’s rights, LGBT rights, and environmental protection — and now the arc of history was bending towards justice and th

justin trudeau: a portrait in cowardice and projection

justin trudeau: a portrait in cowardice and projection the cure for the big lie is the "big, simple fact" el gato malo what’s going on in canada right now is amazing. it’s a genuine uprising of peaceful people retaking their society from aristocratic usurpation. it’s an inspiration. it’s a template. i am excited. i think you should be excited too. trudeau has been a nasty little despot. he has championed the politics of division, vilification, and uncivil discourse masquerading as some search for the common good as he presumes to speak for the collective. he has repeatedly presented a failure to submit to imposed governmental diktat as something “unacceptable” and urged people not to tolerate it. he has described those seeking freedom as racists, sexists, extremists, and bigots of all flavors. and he has many fellow travelers in this echo chamber happy to help carry this putrid water for him. but justin is a liar and so are all his filthy friends. the denizens of his echo cha

On the Subtlety of Monsters

On the Subtlety of Monsters We have to Talk about Nazism. How Our Times Do Indeed Echo an Earlier Totalitarian Era Dr Naomi Wolf My first post in this three-part series, about how the evil that surrounds us has manifested, was about the elite global technocrat class and their distance from the people whose lives they may crush; I noted too their lack of belief in, or loyalty to, the nation-state. Added to this toxic mix, I argued, is the certainty of this class of people that they know best about your life. I made the case in that essay that surrounding us now was a metaphysical, seemingly a Satanic, level of evil. I am seeking to explain in this series of essays, how otherwise nice people — and indeed Western people, who grew up with post-Enlightenment norms about human rights and the rule of law — can be doing evil now, with whole hearts. I am asking how they can be suppressing the respiration of children intentionally; how they can be consigning friends and colleagues to eat in the
