I am extremely saddened by the destruction of Lahaina on Maui. Ed Dowd noted that the official death toll is 80 but rumors that it could be as high as 500-1000 people. I have gone through several years of severe “wildfires” in CA/NV which affected the neighborhoods I care about, destroyed several houses of my neighbors, resulted in severe damage to the water company where I volunteer as a treasurer (it took a while but we have restored it), displaced many people, and destroyed acreage of forest. Locally, nobody was confused about the true causes of these fires - over 90% of them were caused by Pacific Gas and Electric company’s equipment blowing up (delayed maintenance is up to 60 years, but PGE is mandated to buy “green” extremely expensive energy), as well as many cases of arson. Paradise, CA fire was most likely a result of
