A Son’s First Hero, a Daughter’s First Love: In Praise of Good Dads

Image
There are 3 basics to being a good dad, and they will make you a better man as well. Being present in their children's lives is one of the qualities of a good dad. (Biba Kayewich)   By Jeff Minick 10/17/2023 There are millions of good dads, and I’m privileged to know some of them. These men are a mix of professions, beliefs, and life circumstances. There’s Ben in Virginia, father of four kids ages 7 and younger, who knocks himself out working six days a week for his family’s construction company but nonetheless spends time in the evenings and on the weekends with his children. There’s Andy, a chemist in Raleigh, N.C., who’s divorced but delights in seeing his three daughters whenever possible. There’s John in Texas, whose wife died in a car crash last winter and who now devotes every spare minute away from work to his teenagers still living at home. We all know dads like these men—sons and grandsons, nephews, friends, and neighbors. They're the fathers who balance w

Bracing for Impact

Bracing for Impact John Michael Greer I think it was Lenin who said that there are decades in which nothing happens, and then there are months in which decades happen. It’s a useful reminder that the pace of historic change is not smooth. We’ve all seen immense changes take place over the last few decades, but in the industrial world, at least, most of them have happened slowly.  Recent headlines suggest, though, that the pace is picking up to a remarkable extent. A brief survey of the landscape of crisis ahead of us may thus be helpful. As I write these words, to start with, Russian forces on the eastern front of the Russo-Ukrainian war have pushed their way through the Ukrainian lines and are moving to encircle the fortress city of Avdeevka, the linchpin of the Ukrainian defenses in the western Donbass.  At the same time the war between Israel and the Hamas militant movement is blazing, as 300,000 Israeli troops converge on the Gaza Strip while Israeli and Hezbollah forces exchange

Israel: Ever Get The Feeling You've Been Cheated?

Israel: Ever Get The Feeling You've Been Cheated? JAMES DELINGPOLE The Israel psyop is expanding at an alarming rate. Metastasising, you might say, like turbo cancer. And brought to you by exactly the same people.   Some readers, I know, will be upset at my use of the word ‘psyop’ to describe events where real people have died. But that too is part of the diabolical plan. The idea is not merely to generate tension between pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli factions: that part’s obvious. What it’s also designed to do, more insidiously, is fragment the Awake community, causing bitter divisions between those who’ve been swayed by the official narrative into supporting the Current Thing and those who remain resolutely sceptical.   I got a taste of this in some of the responses to my last piece on the subject. It was titled: ‘Israel and Palestine: This Time It Really Isn’t Different.’ The point I was striving to make - the ‘This Time It Really Isn’t Different’ part of the headline, I hop

The Zionist Israeli State, Hamas, and All Governments Everywhere, Do not Give a Damn About ‘The People’

The Zionist Israeli State, Hamas, and All Governments Everywhere, Do not Give a Damn About ‘The People’ By: Gary D. Barnett “You are not Christians. You are not Jews. You are not Muslims. And you certainly aren’t atheists. You all have the same god, and its name is ‘government.’ You’re all members of the most evil, insane, destructive cult in history. If there ever was a devil, the state is it. And you worship it with all your heart and soul.” ~ Larken Rose,  The Iron Web There is much to be said about the evil occurring in the Middle East, and the absolute heinous nature of the Israeli government and Hamas, the claimed ‘leadership’ (ruling class) of Israel and Palestine. The governing aspects of both are insanely wicked, psychopathic, and these entities are murderers of the innocent. They are tied at the hip, as Hamas was created, supported, and funded, by the Zionist Israeli government and its so-called ‘intelligence’ service Mossad, and constantly used against the people of both c

Into the Unknown, With and Without Bombs

Into the Unknown, With and Without Bombs LINH DINH [Khum Saob, Cambodia on 10/13/23] In the early 70’s, Cambodians went berserk on their Vietnamese minority. Murdering hundreds, they tossed bodies, often headless, into the Mekong. Sailing upriver to  Phnom Penh , the South Vietnamese Navy brought thousands back to Vietnam, while the North Vietnamese Army also rescued a few. Cambodians were enraged the Vietnam War had spilled into their country. With North Vietnam using a huge swath of Cambodia for its Ho Chi Minh Trail, American bombs rained down, massacring thousands of Cambodians. Cambodians had also not forgotten a third of Vietnam had once been theirs. In Kracheh, I’ve met a  55-year-old Vietnamese  who lived through all this. Selling fish, his mom was a rich merchant who fed North Vietnamese troops stationed in this area. He showed me a bridge destroyed by American bombs. When the bombardment got too intense in 1973, his family was moved by the NVA to an area near Tay Ninh, Sout
