The US government knows it's letting Israel get away with crimes against humanity
Israel even covered up paedophilia exposed by a children's charity
Former state department official, Josh Paul, who worked on US arms transfers until he resigned in protest, has confirmed what we all knew about US policy on Israel. In a recent interview, he told CNN:
“In all the arms transfers I’ve been a part of discussing, including to Israel, there has always been space for discussion and debate. You can raise concerns about how these arms are going to be used. Do we have confidence that laws of war, laws of proportionately are going to be respected? Do we have concerns about some of the units that these arms might be going to and their track records?
“What was different here is there was no discussion, there was simply an approach that the barn doors are open and that remains the case. The Wall Street Journal reported in just the last couple of days that America has transferred over 4,000 dumb bombs [non-guided missiles] to Israel, several thousand guidance kits and 45,000 artillery shells.
“The barn doors remain open and while I’m certainly encouraged to hear what Vice-President Harris said, what Secretary Austin has said, for as long as those barn doors remain open, I don’t know why Israel would take those warnings seriously.”
So if we break this down, what we have is an admission that Israel is using unguided missiles in its carpet-bombing campaign, it’s feeling no pressure to use its weapons in a proportional manner, and the usual rules are not being applied. I’m sure ordinary Americans would much rather have genocide support than universal healthcare.
As someone recently put into a meme, we have four super-powers (the US, UK, Canada and Israel) against a tiny strip of land where 50% of the population is children. While we are agonising over the horrific images of children being killed or squirming in excruciating pain in urgent need of skin grafts, our leaders remain unmoved. I honestly can’t fathom how people who are so inhuman ended up leading our countries. What the hell are we doing?
Josh Paul confirmed the obvious to CNN, that the US has leverage over Israel, but it’s choosing not to use it. In other words, the Biden administration is complicit in the genocide.
“First of all, I would like to ask where the embrace gets the United States. If you look at what is unfolding now, it is not only a disaster in Gaza, but it is a foreign policy disaster for the United States across the Arab world and frankly, across the global south. We seem like hypocrites when we criticise Russia for human rights abuses but fail to do so with Israel. And so I think our embrace, we have to be careful in that embrace because it draws us in as well.
“Secondly, of course, the answer is we do have leverage that we can use within that embrace. I’m not suggesting that America should not remain close with Israel, I’m suggesting simply that as we are the provider of arms, that we are the provider of billions of dollars of tax payer-funded assistance every year to what is actually a wealthy country, we do have a fair amount of leverage, and of course, we provide Israel with security and diplomatic backup across the region that has enabled its integration. We have a lot of leverage here to set Israel on a better path and to end this senseless killing in Gaza. We are not using it.”
I was always led to believe that taking assistance from the US government that you didn’t need made you a “welfare queen”, or is that another one of the rules that doesn’t apply to Israel? Ordinary welfare queens are condemned for getting their hair and nails done. Perhaps if they spent their welfare cheques on cluster bombs that would be totally fine, or am I misunderstanding?
Regardless, Israel’s crimes go way beyond claiming welfare cheques they don’t need. What Josh Paul had to say next was somehow even more damning:
“I think what happened on October 7th was an absolute atrocity. It was a thousand atrocities, but at the same time we condemn those atrocities, we have to condemn the atrocities that happen every day to Palestinians in the West Bank.
“You mentioned sexual violence. I was part of the human rights vetting process for arms going to Israel and a charity called the Defence of Children International - Palestine drew our attention to the rape of a thirteen year old boy that occurred in an Israeli prison in Jerusalem. We examined these allegations, we believed they were credible, we put them to the government of Israel, and do you know what happened the next day? The IDF went into the DCI-P offices and removed all their computers and declared them a terrorist entity.”
It’s interesting that we’ve heard repeated allegations of rape against Hamas to justify Israel’s genocide, but when that evidence has been asked for, none has been forthcoming. Israel demanded UN Women condemn the rapes, but when the UN asked for evidence, Israel said no because they have an anti-Israel bias.
In other words, anyone who doesn’t accept Israel’s claims (which have so often proven to be false in the past) without evidence, is anti-Israel. How can anyone take this seriously? If a single rape was committed by a member of Hamas, that is horrific, but it is not unreasonable to ask for evidence.
The IDF released a photo last month and it turned it out to be a female Kurdish fighter published online one year before the conflict began. Israeli official Cochav Elkayam Levy has reportedly admitted the photo was misleading.
Israel’s refusal to provide the UN with evidence shouldn’t surprise anyone, given how they’re burying vehicles their Apache helicopters torched and they’re sending bulldozers into the hospitals they besieged. Concealing evidence is what Israel does when it’s not claiming welfare cheques from the US.
The Israeli military has had a major rape and sexual violence problem since the settler-colonial state’s inception. Soldiers who participated in the Nakba admitted on camera to the rape of Palestinian teenagers and we’ve heard countless rape stories since. The IDF even has this weird fetish of stripping, humiliating and beating Palestinian men in public. It does this all the time, labelling civilians, doctors and human rights workers as “Hamas”, and IDF apologists cheer this on.
Even Sky News was forced to ask:
“What does the Geneva Convention have to say about the taking of them [civilians] as prisoners and how does that differ from taking hostages?”
Hamas militants are not hiding in civilian shelters, they’re fighting the IDF to the death among the rubble of buildings that US bombs destroyed. The idea militants are waiting in schools and hospitals to surrender to the IDF is absurd. The only people hiding in those shelters are civilians and Israel knows this, but reports are emerging that the IDF is dragging civilians outside and slaughtering them.
Footage and images of bodies have been published online, but Israel won’t let journalists into Gaza to investigate and almost all of the journalists in Gaza (at least 72) have been killed.
Given all of the above, it does not surprise me that Israel would cover up paedophilia and label a children’s charity a “terrorist organisation”. The head of the DCI-P issued a damning statement which included the following:
“As DCI-P defends Palestinian children in the Israeli military courts and exposes grave violations against Palestinian children at the hands of Israeli forces, delegitimization and disinformation campaigns against DCI-P have been advanced by a network of rising nationalist Israeli civil society organizations and associated organizations outside of Israel, with the support of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs. These efforts take the form of targeted and organized defamation campaigns based on a range of allegations related to the violation of counter-terrorism legislation and international law. These allegations are erroneous, misrepresent and distort critical factual or legal elements.”
The only charity that would be acceptable to Israel would be one that went into Gaza and pretended everything was fine and dandy. How many times have we seen the United Nations and Doctors Without Borders labelled as “Hamas” on social media? Every human rights group that goes into Gaza gets called a “tankie organisation” or worse. It’s literally impossible to point out Israeli war crimes without being smeared. Just know that if you do get smeared, you’re getting smeared by the worst people imaginable. The people who cover up paedophilia.
And those smears are not just hurtful words, they have real consequences. Not only do westerners lose their jobs or get kicked out of university, but Palestinians lose their lives.
Just look at the tragic case of Refaat Alareer who was accused of mocking a baby cooked in an oven (a made up story) by Bari Weiss and others. Refaat has just been killed by an Israeli bomb.
One of Refaat’s last tweets read:
“If I get killed by Israeli bombs or my family is harmed, I blame Bari Weiss and her likes. Many maniacal Israeli soldiers already bombing Gaza take these lies and smears seriously and they act upon them.”
I say no more.
