Tomorrowland Has Fallen!

Image
Tomorrowland Has Fallen! John Michael Greer Has anyone else noticed just how odd it is that so many people on the progressive end of our cultural landscape are frantically trying to convince everyone that the Omicron variant, the latest mutation of the Covid-19 cold virus, really is the end of the world? I freely grant that a lot of people are ill just now—that’s what usually happens in the temperate zone’s winter, you know, when the latest respiratory viruses make their rounds.  I grant just as freely that hospitals are scrambling to keep up—many of them have laid off up to half their staff as a result of vaccine mandates, after all, and they’re being besieged by mobs of people who have been convinced by the media that ordinary cold symptoms mean they’re about to die. The result is a collective frenzy being eagerly fed by a great many people. Of course it’s not surprising that the corporate media would push scare stories at full volume. Whoring out the news to sell advertising spa...

the eternal anxiety of the thoughtless mind

Image
the eternal anxiety of the thoughtless mind clinging to crisis as though your identity depended upon it el gato malo brains are breaking right now. you can hear the shrieks and sputtering and smell the burning wires. that’s what cognitive dissonance does because it is first and foremost a defense mechanism. if you hold a view with sufficient strength and commitment, especially if this is a view you have woven into your identify and proudly promulgated to others, hectoring and posing and portraying it as virtue, letting go is no mean feat. the dogma has become you and you have become reliant upon it for support and structure. those who mutter in their madness the same phrases over and over as they rock back and forth upon the ground are not trying to convince you. they are trying to convince themselves. they will bend fact and ignore plain reality to protect the fictions upon which they have predicated their lives and legends. they will distort and disavow anything they must to keep thi...

Errors, Forced and Otherwise

Image
Errors, Forced and Otherwise There is nothing as revealing as their mistakes. eugyppius Complex human institutions, which have eschewed rigid hierarchy and command discipline for a looser, consensus-based administration, are characteristic of western societies and their liberal democratic governments. Such institutions have a lot of idiosyncrasies, and among them is the inability to pursue any kind of complex strategy. Strategies are birthed in the minds of individuals or small groups; they require clear lines of command and a lot of people willing to follow orders unquestioningly. Institutions that have succumbed to committee government have  tendencies  instead of strategies. Western Corona policies reflect the diffuse, profoundly demobilised attitude of the institutions that sustain them. We might say that these are tendential rather than strategic regimes. Their policies are not machines, carefully assembled to produce a desired outcome, but instead a random assemblage of ...

Let them eat bugs

Let them eat bugs The elites’ war on meat has taken a disgusting turn. Andrew Orlowski Last winter, as the prospect of yet another forced isolation loomed, the lines of queues snaked around the block. I couldn’t tell what they were for, at first. But every one of these queues led to the door of a butchers, and there, in the freezing fog, the stoicism and patience of the queuers told its own story. Meat matters. The revival of butchers in gentrified neighbourhoods resembles the changes in the pub trade: there are fewer than there once were, but speciality or ‘craft’ butchers are springing up to feed the demand for quality. However, the comparison falls short, for it isn’t only wealthy millennials who have retained their enthusiasm for cooking meat. ‘It’s working-class families, too’, food journalist Joanna Blythman tells me. In fact, as a nation we spent an extra  £600million more on meat  in 2021 compared with 2020. The  top-down messaging  assures us that veganism i...

All of the employees at the station are in light condition and all were vaccinated with at least two doses of the coronavirus vaccine. The first case was detected on December 13, with three infections. Although the three were evacuated on December 23, the virus spread throughout the station. It is equipped with two emergency physicians and all the necessary e...
